"Mixed experience"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I’ve been seen by the Peggy Cole Unit several times and the neighbouring ward Stour. Very mixed opinions, sometimes they’ve been amazing… other times you get that one nurse who ruins the whole department.

I’ve had several miscarriages, was sent to Stour ward each time as they weren’t happening by themselves. The overall experience was good, nurses and HCA’s were lovely. Had one doctor who told me that I wouldn’t be able to bury my baby after D&C as “it will just be mush”. Not what any expectant mother wants to hear, especially at a time of grief.

I’m pregnant again, most of the NHS staff I’ve seen have been faultless! However after several upsetting and triggering symptoms started, I asked for help from Peggy Cole Early pregnancy unit. The staff were great I got to see a consultant, had some tests done. It was a watch and wait scenario. And was told if it continued over the weekend to seek help from them once again. I called today and kept getting through to a nurse who had no idea about the situation, told me it’s probably nothing, that it’s probably a minor infection. It goes against everything my consultant told me, had seen or cared about seeing my notes. And instead I almost felt like they  thought I was being dramatic and trying to scam the system for free scans. I’ve had miscarriages, yes, so I’m going to be more concerned about things going wrong BUT I’m not stupid and I know when something isn’t right. What the consultant thinks this is, is actually very serious and could lead to me losing the baby. All I’d say is very good department overall but I think whoever I keep speaking to, needs to be fired.

Also, be aware everything you say on the ward can be overheard.

We are sorry to read your comments and for your experience on Stour. This is not what we would expect for our patients attending Peggy Cole. If you would like to discuss in more detail please feel free to call and ask to speak to the Matron who will be happy to listen to your concerns.
