"Excellent end of life care -Ward 12 Hairmyres Hospital"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 12)

(as a relative),

As a family we would like to express our sincere thanks to all the staff involved in the recent end of life care of my sister -in - law in ward 12 Hairmyres Hospital.

They suffered from advanced lung cancer and had the highest quality care from Dr Ali and his team over the past 2 years , lung cancer specialist nurses gave exceptional support to her throughout her treatment and continued this when her care became palliative .

Her condition deteriorated rapidly in the last 6 weeks of her life and everyone involved in her care recognised the urgency in her changing condition and accessed the correct services at the right times . Palliative care can often be viewed as having to be delivered in a hospice or home environment to achieve the highest standard of care but I would want to commend ward 12 staff , Everyone from domestic to medical staff listened to her and her husband and supported them both with her end of life journey .

Palliative care services were also excellent, and her community team were able to promote joint working with hospital services. Most importantly she was listened to by all staff and when she was no longer able to express her wishes staff listened to her family, allowing her to have the death that was right for her .

There are too many individuals to mention but staff gave their 100% to my sister - in - laws care, prioritising her symptom management while juggling a very busy acute ward environment.

We will always be grateful to ward 12 staff , Dr Ali and his team alongside the palliative care team in acute and community settings . My sister - in - law spoke often of her gratitude for the excellent care she received from the NHS and I know she would want to convey this to everyone who helped her .
