I have had 2 of these procedures and I hope I never have to have another one. In both cases I was in a lot of pain and the sedative given did nothing to help. Before the 2nd one I had voiced my concerns to the nurse who attended me, showing the statement on the report where it was stated the 1st colonoscopy had been difficult.
When in the room where the procedure took place I again voiced my concern and was told the sedative would help. The pain started almost immediately and it was obvious I was in distress. The Endoscopist asked me to turn on my left side, then on my right side then back again onto my back so it was obvious he was having trouble completing the procedure. All this time I was "breathing through" my pain, as advised by the nurse.
Eventually it was decided I had had enough and it came to an end. Because the operation wasn't concluded I now have to have a CT scan to look at the right side of colon.
Surely in 2022 there should be an answer as to why some people have to endure this pain, are there no recent studies on the subject. These things are vital in identifying cancer so must have been used many, many times so the fact that patients have to endure such distress is surely worth an investigation. I realize not everyone will have this experience but for those of us that do some kind of alternative should be possible.
