"Great care but misses other ailments"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Medical Assessment Unit

(as a relative),

My family member was in ward 2 for a week and in that time her initial issue was treated and that allowed her to get home which is great. But in the time she was in she was never helped in a shower and her leg ulcer dressings were only changed once, previously every 2nd day at home. Now the ulcers have grew and are all sloughy, these were minimal when she went in. I know they are understaffed but anytime I was visiting the staff didn't appear to be run off their feet so that they couldn't provide 30 minutes care to shower and redress her legs. In turn this will now need daily district nurses in to dress her legs. I just think a bit of thinking and planning could help patients and outside staff in the future.

But again I do want to thank the staff in ward 2 for their help and dedication to her initial illness.
