"Brilliant care and compassion"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as a relative),

My mother recently passed away and I was made to feel very involved in her care at home. The community nurses were there for my mum and us at all times- whether that was at the end of the phone or during a home visit. I myself live down south so it was incredibly important to have nurses who knew my mum and had a great relationship with her.

A special mention to Megan, who is a community nurse, and had brilliant care and compassion throughout my mum's journey. She continued to visit my mum when she moved to the area for regular leg wound dressings and was able to build a relationship which was of great benefit when mum became end of life, as I felt assured that mum has a good nurse that she knew well looking after her.

Mum was very grateful for Megan’s support and appreciated every little touch! Can’t thank the community nursing team enough!

Dear adele21,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your mum and thank you for sharing your story at what must be a sad time for you.

The community nurse team will be heartened to hear that both you and your mum appreciated the compassionate support delivered throughout your mum’s journey. Your story highlights the importance of continuity of care and why building a relationship is important not just for the patient, but for family who can’t always be as close as they’d like to be at difficult times.

I’m sure Megan’s special mention will mean a lot to her and I’d like to be able to pass your kind words to the right team. Could you contact me either by email (kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot) or phone (07885720267) with the area your mum was based in so I can do that?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Take care,

Kirsten
