"Alcohol Recovery"

About: Aspire- Havering

(as a service user),

Following the birth of my child, I became a single first-time parent. I went through a tough period and subsequently was diagnosed with depression. In that time, I started using alcohol as a coping mechanism and ended up at rock bottom when I was arrested drink driving, and then referred to CGL for alcohol rehab.

My key worker, Sarah, worked with me from day one and treated me with empathy for the first time in months. She made me see that what happened in the past was behind and we needed to work on the present and future. I was very engaged in the process because of the way the treatment was carried out. I didn't feel judged or maligned. It was such a positive experience and I looked forward to attending the sessions every week. Although sometimes I was the only person that attended in my group, I don't mind. Each group was always so engaging. I learnt from the experiences of the other people I met in the group.

As a result of attending the sessions, I made up my mind to go completely alcohol free and it's been 8 months without drinking.

I am grateful for this opportunity.
