"Short staffing can’t always be an excuse"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

My Mum attended here with a broken foot. Given a sandwich which was out of date causing stomach cramps and nausea. Discharged home with a cannula in, when I called A&E I was told this was due to being short staffed, encouraged to complain and to bring my Mum back to have it removed! Despite this ‘short staffing’ 5 staff were standing in the corridor discussing their Christmas rotas! Response from charge nurse was poor and short staffing can’t be an excuse when the check should have completed. Expecting a patient to return who is in pain with a broken foot due to this is unacceptable. I was able to remove this to prevent return to hospital but I’m sure other patients haven’t been as fortunate.

Dear A Nurses Experience

Thank you for taking time to feedback on your experience, we always want to make things better for patients, and we take all feedback seriously. I am sorry to hear of your experience when your mum had to attend A&E at University Hospital Monklands. This must have been a very worrying time for you both.

Can I please invite you to contact University Hospital Monklands in regards to your care, so they can understand the issues in more detail and get back to you personally.
