"Birth & Delivery at AAH"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Delivery Suite Antrim Area Hospital / Fetal Maternal Assessment Unit Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C2 Maternity care

(as a service user),

I want to formally thank each of the midwives who dealt with us when I had my baby girl. From the moment we arrived in FMAU, to when we were discharged, we received amazing care.

We met Toni in FMAU, who assessed me and advised I was fully dilated and ready for delivery. She asked about my previous birth and took my concerns and fears on board, offering reassurance and encouragement. She made the midwives in delivery aware of these and continued to comfort and reassure me that everything would be OK.

Jannah and student midwife Suzi delivered my baby. They were outstanding. I was scared about birth, given my previous experience, but they continued to offer me encouragement and reassure in a patient and empathetic manner. I felt able to trust them even though I was scared.

Barbara was the midwife who cared for me on the maternity ward. She fed my baby, changed her nappy several times and let me rest. She was so down to earth and caring. When my baby was struggling to feed and I was exhausted, she took over and sat with us for over an hour until baby had her feed.

Megan was the midwife on our ward during the day. She also changed my baby and took time to help us where needed. She was lovely and bubbly and chatty. She was under pressure, taking care of the whole bay of us, but she never made you feel you were taking up her time if you asked for help.

These ladies were all exceptional in their roles. They were professional and courteous, but they were also immensely kind, caring and empathetic. They are a credit to their vocation and to the NHSCT. Please pass on my sincerest thanks and gratitude to them.

Hi volansdf46

My name is Helen Weir and I am the interim Head of Service for Maternity &Gynae /Deputy Head of Midwifery. Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl and I hope that you are both well.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of what I'm sure is a busy life with a new baby to provide such lovely feedback.

The staff will be delighted to receive this and I will ensure it is shared with them all especially the staff you have named -the midwives Toni, Jannah and Megan; the student Suzi who will become a great midwife in the near future and our maternity support worker Barbara who we would all be lost without.

As you say they are a credit to the NHSCT and we do value all the work that they do and the care they provide.

Many Thanks

Helen
