"Poor duty of care"

About: Change Grow Live / Knowsley Integrated Recovery Service (KIRS)

(as a service user),

I do not want to go public and send complaint letters to ombudsman etc. I want to explain fully what I have experienced myself when I reached out for help from CGL in Huyton , Liverpool.

I personally feel the centre is a smoke screen and does not take themselves or patients seriously. I feel and I have researched the claim I have made and that unless a court order has been made to treat someone rather than going to prison ,then CGL will prioritise these subjects due to funding and the cost of incarceration of a patient against a detox , this is primarily opiate addictions.

The statistics have to show progression and CGL will have the funding to treat these patients. With all other addictions, alcohol, cocaine etc , does not have the funding to medical help , and there is a large number of applicants on your register that attend for potential reasons that they need to continue receiving benefits or other reasons to use for evidence.

My main reason is to highlight the genuine people that pluck the courage to reach out to you and to be left on a tenterhooks for months on end listening and believing what is told to them. The funding is not provided unless severe cases and CGL keep making appointments for patients and if they do not attend then CGL will not be penalised for their actions and duty of care. CGL in accordance with NICE has not conformed to any 1 single code of conduct and have not organised or trained staff and keyworkers correctly.

CGL has not offered a patients partner or family members any support , advice ,help or therapy with living with an alcoholic or drug addict partner. They never once offered any support or information and I feel they were completely incompetent. I was told by my key worker I would be in a home detox programme within 2 weeks and the key worker never even recorded my details on the system. I was full of confidence and felt I was finally getting the help I needed to become alcohol dependent free.

I kept calling and leaving messages but the key worker never got back to me and I had to attend the premises twice without an appointment to see what was going on. The CGL Centre never applied for my full GP report to have a full insight of my medical history from my GP and had no idea of my medical history or ailments and twice I was told by my key worker and CGL doctor that I would be in a community detox within 14 days maximum. I then found out my key worker had gone on sick leave and is currently still on sick leave and the CGL doctor was filling in for a work colleague that was also on leave and that they were only temp and did not want to step on anyone's toes.

The duty nurse also informed me that my blood sample tests had been misplaced and I have to come back in to take the blood samples again.

I also told them I have what is called atrial fibrillation AF and this was not documented or indeed researched by my medical records that should have been requested from CGL before I continued with any evaluation. Instead, I was told 3 times I would be in community detox within 2 weeks.

CGL never offered me any therapy advice or help with mental health after I told them I was arrested after being chased by the police in a vehicle whilst I was sobbing crying with deep anxiety and emotional stress and confusion. I told my key worker I was deeply depressed with losing my employment and home life and family problems and actually broke down crying in the meeting room trying to find out what was going on and why I have been lied to and treated this way ?

I said out loud that they had no intention of doing what they had said would happen , it's all a lie. I said  to them that i felt like they wanted me to lose faith in CGL and think sod it and leave.

CGL actually made my life 10 time worse because I put my faith and trust in them, only to be lied to and let down , I was told by CGL not to apply for jobs and to carry on drinking otherwise I could have a seizure if I stop drinking. This really frightened me and I kept on drinking each day and turning job interviews down on the hope that within a week as promised I would be alcohol free. For 4 months I continued to spiral out of control with drinking and taking cocaine and getting myself into debt and I am at risk of losing my house because of rent arrears. I put all my hope and faith into CGL and when I went back for an appointment at the beginning of October, I was told by a staff member that there was a major error and negligence happened to me and that they CGL want me to raise a complaint even after I said I wanted to leave it.

CGL in Wilsom Road Huyton need to be informed of their potential danger they will cause clients due to their lack of funding or even potential duty of care they implement to their clients.  I know the staff do their best to adhere to protocol and procedures but outright making false claims and promises is completely unacceptable and genuine people seeking help from CGL need to be fully made aware of the process and be given full access to their treatment and progression files and full honest information that will actually benefit them.

I wasted 4 months scared out of my wits that if I stopped drinking I would die ,I turned down job offers and hit the booze even more with the hope CGL would sort me out.
