"Friendly and nice staff on Coronary Care"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Coronary Care Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

After developing chest pains, I came to the Emergency Department at Daisy Hill Hospital. My experience here was alright. I had about a 7 hour wait but all the staff were lovely and very good during this time.

I was then transferred up to the Coronary Care Ward. It has been absolutely fine on this ward. All the staff have been very friendly and very nice. When it comes to communication with staff it has been alright - their explanations have been good.

The food has been alright - I don't have much of an appetite but it has been alright. The ward has been kept clean, as have the toilets etc.

The only issue I have encountered would be in regards to the showers. I have found it to be a bit slippery at times. There is also nowhere to put your clothes to prevent them from getting absolutely soaked. Other than this, my stay has been overall good and I am happy with the care provided by the staff here.

Good Morning,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience from staying in Coronary Care.

We are delighted to hear that your experience has been a positive one. I am pleased to hear that staff have communicated well with you throughout your admission - We strive to include our patients with their care and ensure they know what is happening every step of the way.

To address your point about the showers - this is something that I have looked into previously. Due to the wet floor, I had enquired about rails for patients to hold onto and also a hook/bench to hold clothes to prevent these from getting wet. However due to health and safety and to prevent any fatalities, these were not allowed. There are two showers on the ward and only one of these are allowed rails, which are already in place, to provide support. Staff must risk assess patients to ensure they attend the correct shower. I will relay to staff on the ward to make patients at lower risk of harm aware to attend the shower with the rails in place.

I will ensure the team are all aware of your kind words - we really appreciate them.

Thank you again and Best Wishes, Patricia.
