My father is currently awaiting an urgent referral for cardiology. A gentleman with previous history of heart attack and known ongoing high risk cardiac issues. We are phoning referral management every week since his initial referral ten weeks ago and the waiting times have increased from 2-3 weeks, to 10 weeks, to 18 weeks and at the last count 21 weeks.
I am well aware of the pressures the NHS faces at this time but we are currently living in fear of my father having another heart attack which may prove fatal before he is seen. The timescale for his appointment looks to be well into the New Year.
We are aware he can present to A and E if he has any acute issues but what if we don't have that time and his event proves to be fatal?
Please can you advise what is being done to address these quite frankly frightening waiting times?
