"Extremely grateful for the opportunity to achieve VBAC"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Neonatal Unit (Special Care Baby Unit) Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I just wanted to post my story to say a massive thank you to all the staff at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital for their care and support in helping me achieve a natural delivery after 3 previous emergency caesarean sections.

I arrived in Triage in the early hours of morning and was greeted by Midwife Olivia who checked me over and announced that I was already 8cm's dilated.

My contractions were coming every 1-2 mins and after being examined my body began to push. I was swiftly moved through to the midwives unit where I had requested to be for my labour/delivery.

Midwife Amy and student Kate took over my care in the unit and gave me so much support, reassurance and encouragement.  After over an hour pushing it was discovered that my baby was stuck and I'd require forceps to move her, for this I was taken to theatre for an epidural.

Before going to theatre I was aware of a couple of other midwives who came in to check on my progress and offer assistance, thank you Sarah and Sharon.

The theatre staff were all lovely and before we knew it our new baby girl was delivered.  She was a bit stunned at delivery and had a short stay in the neonatal unit where Eilidh took great care of her.

I was transferred to Summerfield Ward where I spent 2 nights.  The ward was very busy with buzzers going off constantly day and night but the staff were always available to offer any assistance if required.

Special thanks to the midwives who looked after me whilst on the ward - Gemma, Emily, Charlie and Nikki and also the support workers Pauline, Kate, Kelly, Ali, Tyler and Diane.

I would also like to say a huge thank you to my consultant Subhayu and to the hospitals Consultant Midwife Katie for all your support.  Apologies if I've missed anyone out in my thanks.

I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to achieve my VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean).  The support and care I received in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital was amazing and I will be eternally grateful.  Thank you all.
