"Request for a 2nd opinion was denied"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Rheumatology

(as a service user),

When I requested a 2nd opinion for the treatment for a Systemic Sclerosis related severe skin reaction on my feet, which has been plaguing me for 9 months, a staff member whom I'd never met, denied that request in complete contravention of The Patient Charter.

I responded to the letter & asked for a copy of the treatment guidelines, to which referred.  I also formally asked for the information which had informed this decision.  Instead of acting in accordance with the Charter, the letter was sent to Patient Affairs who I feel have exerted pressure on me by failing to remain neutral, investigating the circumstance & telling me mediation was not an option.  Patient Affairs has only frustrated & inflamed the situation.

It's crystal clear that my letter has not been read, merely skimmed & several of my remarks have been taken completely out of context. Mine is a rare disease & I've lived with its manifestations for more than 25 years. I know my body & knew that the initial treatment was never going to work. That's evidenced by physical photos that I enclosed with my first letter.

My GP has been more helpful than the so-called experts in my disease.  I am simply asking for my rights under the Patient Charter to be respected & to have treatment given that will make a difference to my challenging disease
