I have been having mental health issues since 2014, but I keep getting brushed off by the services put there to help. Single point access website says they can make an appointment to see someone in an emergency - but when I've called call nobody seems to want to help.
I cannot even begin to describe how disappointed I am in this service. While I appreciate that some people might have had the luck of getting an appointment straight away, that is not my case in the slightest. First of all I want to mention that this service is the only one available publicly for people such as myself with mental health issues (any severe cases that IAPT does not take on due to reasons I cannot express here) however their response time is appalling. I understand that there is such a thing as a limited budget and waiting time but that does not excuse the lack of care and quite frankly bluntness in answering calls when they are essentially a help service.
I waited almost 2 months and a half for a first appointment (and that happened only by persisting at least 2 times a week in calling them) and when it did happen it was incredibly short and unprofessional. At the end of it I had to ask whether I'd be contacted by a doctor (despite me describing serious diagnosis and mental health struggles ) and the response was to ask me if I wanted to see a doctor - which begs the question of what the assesment was even for.
It takes at least 2-3 attempts to even reach the reception and you're lucky if they answer but the replies are always the same - that they'll send an email to the upstairs team - which again begs the question of why they have a reception team if they cannot get in contact with the right department any other way. After each call I asked for a time frame and the resonse is always the same - that it's hard to tell.
I am quite lucky that I am struggling with mental health issues yet I am receiving help and support from my family. My heart goes to everyone who has to be referred to MINT that only has them as a support.
