I was diagnosed with prostate cancer after noticing blood in my urine.
I immediately made a appointment with my GP who carried out a prostate examination the result of which was a hospital appointment within days at Barnstaple Hospital.
After a few appointments for bone scans at the RDE hospital in Exeter and MRI scans, PET and CT scans at my local hospital it was decided that a endoscopy gastrointestinal was required along with a prostate biopsy.
All this happened very quickly and in a couple of months I was receiving radiotherapy every weekday for nearly a month.
This was carried out at the Oncology department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
All the staff and nurses who work in the department are very professional but also very caring and with a great sense of humour which helps when you’re there for a couple of hours.
After my treatment I would go to the small cafe area in the department which is run by the cancer charity FORCE for a coffee and a quick snack, the prices are very reasonable and they also have a centre in the hospital grounds which can offer help, support and advice for people dealing with cancer.
I found that from the first appointment to starting treatment happened very quickly and I was kept informed all the way through.
I cannot thank everyone involved in my treatment enough.
