"Appalling conditions at Greenock Town Hall for covid/flu jabs"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Covid Vaccination Programme

(as a carer),

Mother had an appointment, and when we got there the queue was out the door and was told 1 hour and a half wait, was also told contradicting responses (one being "you don't need an appointment" and "only appointments"). Too many people were brought to town hall, if you have an appointment that should be your entitlement to be taken on time (give or take 15 mins, there was a lot of elderly.

I had to get my mum a chair as her blood pressure dropping down due to standing an hour and a half would have caused her to collapse (as a poor old lady who was "standing" in queue did in front of shocked, frail elderly causing them distress. Poor old lady didn't even have a seat, nurses /health staff should have been monitoring situation (but were not).

6 stations were supposed to be running with"health staff", but it was 3 staff giving jabs, then 2 staff giving jabs, then 4 staff giving jabs - not acceptable. Then shortly after, lady taken away in ambulance (by the way when the old lady collasped in queue, it was the fastest I'd seen them moving the whole hour I was standing in the queue for mother.

Then don't know what else happened, but health staff started panicking and running out of hall, only to come back in and tell everybody to leave as there is a major incident - totally unacceptable and shocking.

Mother or myself will not be attending any more covid/flu jabs in future, doctor or nurse will just be coming to our home as my 84 year old mother will never be subjected to that appalling behaviour and conditions. Disgraceful way for elderly and frail to be treated.

Dear bubba123

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback on Care Opinion.

First of all I would like to apologise that your experience at Greenock Town Hall was of a unsatisfactory standard.

Please be assured the team are working extremely hard in the background to try and improve all aspects of this programme and to avoid the queuing issues you witnessed at Greenock Town Hall.

The clinics that are running at the moment are for appointments only. Thank you for highlighting the need for better signage and awareness of this. We will make sure consistent messaging across our clinics are visible from now on.

The team onsite are also addressing the seating issue on site for those who require a seat.

As we do with all major incidents we review these as a team and look to see what we could have done better. I can confirm this has already taken place after the incident at Greenock to make sure improvements will be made going forward.

Please accept my apologies for the experience you and your mother had to endure.

Kind regards

Kevin
