"Difficult circumstances"

About: Galloway Community Hospital / Accident & Emergency General practices in Dumfries and Galloway

(as a service user),

Hello

I am writing under difficult circumstances.

Unfortunately I had a accident at work.

The incident happened at work in early September, I was punctured/stabbed by a faulty bit of apparatus the object penetrated my upper thigh by 3/4inches reducing me to severe pain.

Seeing the metal release from my leg I started feeling unsteady on my feet and it was reported to me I had white pale skin also (assumed shock).

My work carried out all necessary procedures in place and an ambulance was needed to escort me to the Galloway Community Hospital to receive treatment. I was escorted to a bed where the ambulance crew would handover details of the injury were I would wait for further treatment.

When on the bed the nurse asked questions on the incident and i replied to my knowledge.

They proceeded to test my durability and function of my damaged leg with pain but managed to move it more or less 80% of the way (moving of knee/hinge joint)

The nurse proceeded to clean around the wound putting me in severe pain as the skin round the wound was extremely sensitive which wasn't a issue.....

The issue is due to the nature of the injury I am unable to move without difficulty and failures by staff have caused me great distress.

They claimed they would be doing a "fit note" for my work due to the recovery and nature of the injury which is understable, but two days later I had a phone call saying they had forgotten to do this.

So unfortunately I do not have a car, I normally rely on my feet to get from A to B, my job requires me going up and down ladders and controlling heavy machinery.

Needing to put myself in severe discomfort to get a "self cert fit note" at the health centre.

I did try phoning but failed to get through on the phone for a hour/15 attempts (at one point they must of put it on silent because i phoned for 10 minute solid ringing) so that wasn't a option.

I feel that staff's forgetfulness has hindered my recovery process, and has put my Job at severe jeopardy due to my injury at work.

I have had to make the journey 3 times in a week to try and rectify the issue and still am unable to stop the domino effect that has followed.

Now I am coming into the 2nd week after the incident with my "fit note" expired and not a doctors appointment to be seen, stitches still in my leg need out but bruising has went down a bit, unfortunately to find I may have nerve damage symptoms...so as I said it's been a domino effect.
