"Not fit for purpose"

About: Lawson Street Practice

(as a service user),

Can not get an appointment at Lawson Street Sexual Health Clinic, almost impossible. They do not offer a walk-in clinic, which is essential for a sexual health service. Also, there should be a clinic for teenagers. The clinic is not user friendly and uninviting , which for a sexual health clinic is not acceptable.

They also call out patients names in the waiting room, when a number system should be in place, being sensitive to patients' privacy. The receptionist is behind glass, and not greeting patients in a friendly manner. The entire clinic needs an overhaul and bringing up to date.

I have spoken to numerous young people who will not go to Lawson Street, they say the staff just fob you off and are not friendly. The clinic is not fit for purpose. It should be open, friendly and inviting, as people need better access to sexual health treatment and not turned away when they visit and made to feel embarrassed.

The lack of treatment and availability of appointments from this clinic puts a huge strain on GP surgeries. The excuses they give over the telephone is ridiculous, saying phone back next week, because a member of staff is on holiday, and we'll try to fit you in, or you can go to Hartlepool.

This is not how a sexual health clinic should be run. In my opinion, it's negligence and needs addressing urgently. It's shocking that it's been permitted to operate in this way for so long. The staff need immediate training and management to be held accountable.
