"An exceptional Nursing Assistant in Outpatient Clinics"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Outpatients Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I accompanied my 17yr old son to an outpatient clinic in Altnagelvin Hospital for appointment with Consultant.  Several medical students were also waiting on the same Consultant.  My son was anxious, worried that these young female medical students would be accompanying the Consultant. He was already nervous about the Consultation & the need to share very personal, sensitive information.

I sought advice from the Nursing Assistant Rachel coordinating the clinic. I didn't even need to explain in detail my son's concerns.  She immediately showed empathy & understanding of our situation.  She reassured us that the medical students would not accompany the consultant during this appointment. This alleviated our anxieties.  She was so kind and professional in her interactions with both of us. She also maintained my son's dignity & confidentiality at all times.

Hello octansdk79, my name is Emma and I am a staff nurse in the outpatients department.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience I am really pleased that it has been a positive one.

I am so happy that your son's dignity and confidentiality was maintained at all times and that Rachael was so empathetic and understanding.

I will be sure that Rachael is informed of your kind words and that her professionalism and kindness has not gone unnoticed.
