Following finally recognising that I was not a lush or functioning alcoholic etc. about 3 or 4 years ago but in fact an addict of not only booze but also charlie, speed and other rubbish. I went into treatment in 2020. Although I fully embraced this and successfully completed detox and a 4 week intensive group therapy programme, I relapsed 11 months later.
So I started the process of picking myself up again. In Sept this year I got into the Dame Carol unit and am 1 day from completing the treatment (detox) for the 2nd and I fully hope and believe the final time. I have a solid plan of ongoing support in place for my continuing journey of recovery.
Its important to understand that detox is not a cure but a way of enablement to embark on the life long journey into recovery.
Detox is difficult and as such those going through it will quite often moan, complain, blame and be a pain to those trying to help. As an ex nurse, I wouldn't want to care for and treat people who are going through hell!
Dame Carol although not an ideal building (where is)? Is a very well equipped facility. I have no complaints about staff or the wide range of treatment, but will you please allow us to smoke in the grounds? it is the one pleasure that I feel I have, vaping just does not cut it.
I thank you all but I hope I never see you again (in the nicest possible way) x
