Dear Annbb99

Thank you for taking the time to provide some valuable feedback following your recent visit to day surgery. I see that you felt the area was difficult to find, was cold, with uncomfortable seats and lack of privacy. You also noted that the noise from the TV was too much.

I have shared your concerns with the peri-operative team and they are planning some changes to address the issues that you have raised.

Thank you again for your time. I hope that you are recovering well

Kind regards

Lise

Dear Annbb99,

Many thanks for sharing your story and providing important feedback. I am sorry that you found the environment to be uncomfortable, cold and noisy. We are currently looking at ways to improve the comfort of patients in our care whilst they await surgery.

Thank you also for your positive feedback on staff, I will pass this on to the team. We wish you well as you continue to recover.

Kind Regards

Pauline

Update posted by Annbb89 (the patient)

Hi

Thanks for your response

reading my comments they seem very harsh and I feel I should explain that I was in a lot of pain throughout my time in the unit.

I have osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and also had a torn meniscus.

The first four and a half hours in the unit I was in a room on my own with a recliner chair and was as comfortable as I could be.

By the time I was moved to a communal waiting area I had been fasting for many hours. I had missed regular medications and analgesia therefore did not feel well.

Also I am under five feet in height and find it difficult to sit comfortably in most chairs never mind the addition of knee pain.

I certainly wasn’t in the mood for a loud tv program.

As I said the staff were lovely and I was returned to a single room with a comfortable chair.

The care and thoughtfulness of the staff was much appreciated.

I hope my comments did not cause offence.

Dear Annbb89

Please be reassured that no staff have taken offence to your comments. We found them very useful in terms of feedback and learning.

I would also like to thank you for reiterating how thoughtful staff were as I should have acknowledged this earlier.

It is really important that feedback is received as we need to learn how it feels for you as a patient, waiting for a procedure and how this affects you as an individual and how it feels.

Your comments are not harsh and I am personally very grateful that you have taken time to feedback. Please do not worry that they have been taken in any other way than what was meant.

Thank you again for making us think about the environment and what needs to be done to make things better for others. It is appreciated.

Kind regards to you

Lise

Dear Annbb89,

I would like to provide you with an update on changes we have made since your last visit to UHH Day Surgery.

The day surgery information leaflet has now been modified with the entrance to day surgery clearly marked. We have also identified that extra signage would be of benefit in the atrium, currently being addressed with a view to completion soon.

All patients are offered water under our new Sip til Send policy, this is right up to the time of surgery. Patients attending for procedures with a prolonged wait will remain within the consultation room, whereby possible. These room will provide recliners for patient comfort with blankets and pillows being offered. We are also looking to improve on the good to go lounge in terms of comfier seating overall.

Staff are continually trying improve the patient experience. We look at the patient’s individual needs on the day and try to support them in the most appropriate way.

The Day Surgery Team and I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Kind Regards

Pauline
