"I do not understand why my property was destroyed"

About: Leverndale Hospital / Mental Health

(as the patient),

Leverndale Hospital staff in ward 3A confiscated my antidepressants then destroyed them, without advising me they would be destroyed when I handed them over. I have now been without my medication for 9 days. I feel that this is medical neglect, as no one helped me with my withdrawals despite me raising this several times.

I do not understand why my property was destroyed without my knowledge or consent. My GP in Australia will be very concerned at this.

Dear HLE2022

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I have checked with my colleagues at Leverndale Hospital and they have advised that it is standard procedure to remove medication from patients when they are admitted to hospital. I apologise if this wasn’t explained to you at the time and for the distress this has caused you. If you would like to discuss this further can you please contact my colleague, Carol Donoghue on 0141 211 6415.

Thank you

Nicole
