"Hospice was like our 2nd home"

About: Kilbryde Hospice

(as a relative),

My mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer in lockdown and was cared for in the hospice before she passed away. This was a very difficult time for our family but the Kilbryde staff helped us make the best of our time. My mum adored every one of the staff and often said how safe she felt in their care. The staff are professional yet at the same time they really did feel like family.

Even with lockdown restrictions in place the hospice did everything they could to support safe visits which was amazing after not seeing my mum for 2 months after she was in hospital during lockdown.

The hospice staff organised so many meaningful events for us to create special memories like a movie night and birthday celebrations. In my mums last week of care we celebrated the birth of her granddaughter. The staff made this feel like such a special time for us all and I was so glad my mum got to meet her before she passed away.

We will never be able to repay the care received to my mum, but we will always be so grateful and continue to support the hospice.

Although they could not change the outcome, they really did affect the journey. Thank you all so much x

Dear KD23,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a heartfelt Care Opinion post about the care your Mum received while with us at Kilbryde Hospice. It is so reassuring for me to hear that you all felt we were able to help you make the best of your time together and that your Mum felt safe in our care.

Lockdowns were hugely difficult times for everyone, but we strived to support the vital visits that our patients and their families needed by creating a safe system that continually evolved as rules changed. I am so glad that we were able to do this so that you were able to visit your Mum, especially after not seeing her for such a long time when she was in hospital.

Having spoken to the staff who cared for your Mum I can assure you that it was our privilege to be a part of such personal and special celebrations. The movie night, with posters and popcorn, was a highlight!

"It was a pleasure creating these memories for such a beautiful family."

"It was our privilege to be a part of your difficult journey."

"It was an honour to get to know your Mum and all the family on a personal level and we found it so exciting awaiting the arrival of baby!"

I know I say this on behalf of us all at Kilbryde, that we are so grateful to you all for your continued support and we hold very fond memories of your lovely Mum.

Please continue to look after yourselves and we love to hear how baby is growing.

With many thanks,

Rosie
