"Wonderful cardiology nurse"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4) University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

Sandra was the cardiology nurse who attended to me at my appointment at Wishaw General Hospital.

She explained fully the purpose of the appointment which was a stress test to ascertain the cause of my breathlessness and chest pain over the past six month period. Having failed this stress test after a four minute period on the treadmill, I spoke to Sandra  and explained that the pain and breathlessness of having been on the treadmill was what occurred three to four times a day over the previous six months which left me with no quality of life and unable to undertake normal everyday duties.

Having dealt with several health care professionals in the previous six months, Sandra  was the first person to fully listen and understand the difficulties I was having and was also the first person to take positive steps to have the situation resolved.

Sandra's professionalism and experience resulted in her being able to ascertain that I was extremely ill and made arrangements for me to be admitted to the Emergency Department.

I was then transferred to Hairmyres Hospital for an angiogram which revealed that I had a significant blockage in three arteries which were cleared and three stents inserted. So far my life is back to what it was previously.

Taking into account I had several visits to my GP with no satisfaction, and having previously spent an overnight in Wishaw General Hospital, I was still no nearer getting the situation resolved. I believe the person solely responsible for resolving it was Sandra.

Her level of compassion, professionalism and experience along with her ability to listen to what the patient is saying enabled her to take proactive measures in my situation. I am now eight weeks post-surgery and in that period Sandra has kept in touch to make sure I am keeping well and not having any health problems, with the assurance that I can call her department at any time if I require help.

In conclusion, my experience of being a patient of Sandra's was very positive - there is nothing negative in my experience.

I don't think she could have done any more or anything any better. For what she's done for me I hold her in the highest regard.
