"Support to get around"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am wheelchair bound, I have Renal Anaemia due to Renal Failure. I was told that the porters cannot take me to the cafe from orthotics because they dont have insurance. This is I feel discrimination because if I was able bodied I could get something to eat while waiting to be seen. As it is I am not able to.

We’re very sorry to hear of your experience, which shouldn’t have happened. It is part of the portering staff’s duties to transfer patients in wheelchairs from all outpatient clinics to enable access to the café, restaurant and other food outlets and any requests received by them should be undertaken. We will remind the porters of this.
