"We could not have done it without you"

About: Peterhead Community Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

Originally we planned a home birth but as our insurance did not support a pool in the house we adjusted our plan and decided to have our baby in Peterhead Community hospital. Even though we live 40 min drive away from the facility I felt I wanted to be there instead of the big hospital on our doorstep.

We visited beforehand and the staff was so welcoming and showed us the facility.
When it came to actual labour I phoned the unit and the midwife advised to come in. Once we arrived we were greeted warmly, taken to our chosen birthing suit.
What impressed me was that the pool was ready, the room was all ours and midwifes actually looked at my birthplan and asked questions to my husband about anything they were unsure of. I felt respected, valued and well looked after.
Throughout the labour midwifes were encouraging and followed my lead. We adjusted the plan as we went but they always made sure that I had all the info to make the appropriate decision. Particularly in my memory is the continuous encouragement from the midwifes.
Even when the shifts were handed over the staff made sure that the birth plan is followed.
When it came to birth I am super grateful that I had the specific staff there as they really helped me with reminders and reasurrance. I loved how open minded midwifes taking care of me were about my preferences and I am grateful that they recognised and persevered when I doubted myself and my body at different points.
My first birth was not a pleasant experience (in a different facility), but after this birth I am excited to be pregnant and give birth again (if that happens again). I would definately return to Peterhead again! Thanks to the staff all three of us, me, my husband and our baby boy have had a beautiful transition into postpartum.
Especially thanks to midwifes Iona, Ruth, Georgia and student midwife Marina! You really made our boys birth a beautiful and empowering experience! We could not have done it without you!

Dear likeabledf66

Please accept my apologies for the delay replying to you. It is always a delight to read feedback about an experience but I am completely overwhelmed by your lovely words and recognition of the team members you mention. I will ensure this is shared with the whole team and in particular Iona, Ruth, Georgia and student midwife Marina,

We pride ourselves on providing a woman/family centred approach to our care and it is a joy to know that you felt respected, valued and well looked after. It is equally good to know that you and your husband felt welcomed to the unit and that your birth plan was followed and shared. Involving partners is always important and I pleased that your husband also felt involved in decisions.

I would just like to say a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the whole team for sharing your experience with us and wish you and your family all the best for the future.

With kind regards

Lorraine
