"The best experience welcoming our boy"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

(as the patient),

We chose to have our little boy at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and its the best decision I’ve made!

We phoned triage a couple of times and they were so accommodating and always told me to come in - we had quite a travel so didn’t want to go in and waste staff time if we didn’t have to. When we got to triage they were waiting for me and were so attentive both times we were in. On the Saturday night we went back in and I was 4cm dialated. We were put into a private room because the triage ward was full but it really felt like we were the only people there, everyone was so caring and made sure I had pain relief and was comfortable and our baby was always being monitored too. Our midwife Chelsey and Student midwife Emma Andrews made us feel so at ease, they were the loveliest girls and couldn’t do enough for us.

I made the decision to go to the labour ward and have an epidural and within no time at all the doctor Chris was through getting a canula in my hand so everything was ready. We then went through to the labour ward and midwife Kirby took over. I didn’t have to wait any time at all for my epidural and doctor Robert made me and my husband feel so relaxed and at ease, we were all laughing and joking and before I knew it the epidural was in, practically pain free. Kirby looked after us all night and made sure we had everything we needed.

At 7:00 am on Sunday midwife Margaret and her student took over and I was told baby would be here by 9:30 - I couldn’t believe how easy and stress free the whole experience had been. It still felt like we were the only patients there and we had constant care, the midwives never left our side.

Our baby ended up being delivered by forceps and I did feel a bit overwhelmed then as I had to go to theatre but the midwives and all the theatre staff were so reassuring the whole time.

Our little boy was born after 2 pushes with forceps and I will never be able to thank everyone enough for getting him here safely.

We were moved up to room 4 in Summerfield ward and were made really comfortable again.  We had a few student midwives and their care was second to none. Lovely midwife Esme looked after us most of Monday and we got home that afternoon.

I can’t speak highly enough of the whole experience and would do it all again in a heartbeat.  It wasn’t the birth I had planned but it was still the most amazing experience. Thank you to all at Aberdeen Maternity, you are worth your weight in gold.
