"I saw a patient being treated like a problem"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a staff member),

An elderly lady was being wheeled on a trolley into Avon 4, WRH. As soon as the ward doors opened the ward assistant and staff nurse both stated that there were no beds. No welcome to the two porters or the lady.

The lady tried to speak and the porters explained that they had come from A&E and this was where the lady must be admitted. The ward staff completely ignored the lady even though it appeared she was perfectly capable of answering questions.

There was no reassurance or explanations just what appeared to be a poor response. It was a really disheartening moment as I thought this could be me, my Mum or Daughter one day; being treated like we are causing the staff a problem by needing medical care.

The hospital motto is  "Putting Patients First". I feel really upset about how this lady was treated.
