"The crisis team"

About: Crisis Mental Health / Single point of access team (SPA) & Emotional Wellbeing Service (EWS)

(as a service user),

I rang feeling suicidal and terrified I couldn’t make it to the wait time. I was in high distress and had no contact past the original letter with crisis numbers on and other services had told me I couldn’t access while u see SPA.

I rang to ask about it explain my distress I’d been passed around and had to explain myself lots that day. Rather than understanding this the person on the phone took little care to try help or care simply told me it’s several months until I could access anything. They didn’t take care to use any compassion or tone of voice I was trying to explain my distress wasn’t aimed at them, but the wouldn't even take care to understand that. It was patronising and made me feel worse.

I ended the call and had to get my boyfriend to leave work because I was so distressed and lost. As someone who also works in mental health and would never act that way it was honestly awful care in hindsight.

It’s now August I’ve been waiting since last July. I was first told 8 months, then three more, now another three. I have no idea where I’m at or who to ring as obviously that’s not something I ever want to go through again.

The receptionist was honestly the only supportive or helpful person who genuinely seemed to care. They went out their way to suggest ideas, which I don’t understand why the crisis team couldn’t themselves.

Every interaction I have with SPA I’m honestly more shocked.
