"The impossibility of an urgent case receiving a cystoscopy"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Urology (Bladder and Urinary problems)

(as the patient),

During the Spring I was referred as an urgent case to Urology at ARI. I had developed diverticulitis and a fistula between my bowel and bladder. I was given a consultant appointment at the end of June. It was cancelled. I was told by Urology that General Surgery had cancelled it. General Surgery deny this and I believe them.

Since then, despite my rapidly deteriorating health no amount of mails from my surgeon, my surgeon's secretary, or my GP have succeeded in soliciting a response. No appointment. No response. I left messages on the secretary's answer machine, when I visited Urology to ask the staff I was told I would be called back, I was never called back.

Every department at ARI has been excellent. When the colonoscopy took place the staff were superb. My MP is visiting my home after being shocked by what I've told them about my lack of treatment by Urology. I was and am an urgent case. Urology is the only ward at ARI that has let me down so badly. They have done a very poor job in my case. I assume the doctors are excellent with other patients, but in my case I feel there's been no regard at all for my critical state of health, and they have not responded to any of the other physicians desperately attempting to arrange my cystoscopy.

Dear JaCC22

I’m so sorry to hear there have been communication issues with urology and you’ve been left feeling let down and disregarded - I can understand why. I’d like to be able to look into why this has happened and make sure you receive the care you should be, but I’ll need your patient details to do this. Can you contact me on email or phone? My details are: email: jane.beattie1@nhs.scot / telephone: 01224 552191.

Take care,

Jane
