I spent 4 days and nights in ward 3e at Crosshouse Hospital. From the minute I arrived until the minute I left the staff, particularly the nurses, were wonderful!!
They were attentive, helpful and professional and are the corner stone of the whole process. Too many to name across the various shifts but each and everyone deserves a huge thanks and praise. Thank You !! ( I wish I could remember all the names! Joanne, Julie, Shannon, Gillian ec etc)
What could be done better -
After 4 days of observing activities within the ward it is clear that the nurses are spending (by my assessment) around 40% of their time doing 'non' nursing activities such as, taking food orders, serving food, making beds, talking to relatives, chasing up and making appointments - This is admin!! Unless I'm missing something, passing these activities to lower skilled and less expensive people would save money and increase nursing capacity (or nursing salaries).
