At the start of July I delivered in Antrim hospital. The care in the maternity outpatients leading to delivery was excellent with all the nurses, midwives and doctors being helpful and friendly and providing a great service.
I had never been induced before so the experience was different to my other deliveries, but the midwife in the induction bay (Fiona)was excellent and made me feel very at ease. The delivery happened extremely quickly in the end,in a less than ideal situation, but the team made sure it went smoothly and were all on standby to assist.
The midwife caring for me after delivery (in delivery suite-Agatha) was so caring and made me feel at ease. Unfortunately, baby had to go to the Royal for surgery but on the lead up to this the doctors and midwives made sure he was looked after and they dealt with the situation which they don't see very often brilliantly.
He was blue lighted to the Royal that evening and neo natal were involved, also doing a great job of preparing him for travel. The midwife from delivery suite understood how hard it was for baby to be taken away and she ensured I was comfortable for the evening and that the other midwives knew I was to be discharged first thing in the morning to be with baby. This didn't mean that they rushed me out. They ensured everything was in place for me leaving and that it was safe to do so.
In the community our midwife Denise was excellent and provided great care. All in all, the maternity service in the Northern Trust area and at Antrim hospital was excellent (there were a couple of hiccups but as always due to under staffing and no fault of the staff).
"Great maternity care"
