In June I was admitted to CAU with a cellulitis and infection in my right eye. It was very painful and I could not see out the eye due to the swelling. I was commenced on IVABs and informed I would need to stay in over the weekend. Due to mental health I really didn't want to stay in the hospital. I was reviewed by the infectious disease doctor Amy who reviewed me and confirmed that I needed more IVs.
I asked if I could be seen in the OPAT clinic, this meaning I could get home to my family. I was then seen by Isobel the nurse that helps run the clinic and she agreed I am suitable for this service.
When I attended the clinic the nurses were amazing, they talked me through everything and made me feel at ease. There was a lot of friendly banter between the nurses and other patients which i was included in. This made me feel very relaxed and comfortable.
I attended the clinic for a further 4 days then I was moved onto oral antibiotics.
I would just like to say thank you to all the staff who looked after me in OPAT, if it wasn't for them I would have been stuck in the hospital for days instead of 1 night.
Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable I would happily use this service again If I had too. Now my eye is fully healed I just wanted to write about my positive experience.
Keep up the great work lovies.
