"Lengthy treatment times"

(as a service user),

Arrived for 9:00am appointment, understaffed and queues of people, treatment didn’t start until 10:30 am.

A very long day just became an extremely long day.  I won’t be leaving here until nearly 5:00 pm.  It is absolutely exhausting day for someone going through cancer treatment. I can’t fault the staff but there is a severe shortage and the quality of care is suffering.

Dear Oboe

We are sorry about the delays in being able to start your treatment, we appreciate it can be a very long and tiring day for our patients. We regularly gather service user feedback and waiting time in the reception area is a particular focus of this feedback. In response to the lengthy waits, we are looking at our internal processes to identify areas that might help reduce this time.

One example of something that we are doing to try to help the flow of patients is having a dedicated space where patients can have some of the pre treatment checks carried out for example blood pressure monitoring, this is in its very early days, but we hope this will prove beneficial in reducing overall time in the unit.

Our Senior Charge Nurse has also altered her working time in order to allow better planning of the day, this is a change that has just taken place this week but again we hope that this will allow us to predict any issues with flow on the day.
