Whilst in the very VERY busy Accident and Emergency Department, we felt that one nurse in particular really made a point of making us feel listened to and helping us.
On Sunday, you could tell A&E was extremely busy. I have never seen the staff running around as much as I did then. A younger nurse was there to look after us. We have never experienced care like we did with her. She had excellent attention to detail, from remembering our names (including us relatives), to remembering what we took in our hot drinks. Her knowledge was exceptional, she knew exactly how to talk to us, especially when my mum was anxious. Her bedside manner was second to none and we felt that nothing was too much to ask.
We knew we were probably facing a long wait but she was reassuring and made it clear that we were not forgotten about. Some of the other nurses in the Accident and Emergency were not so welcoming. One in particular was quite rude and snippy, we even witnessed the nurse being like this with their colleagues.
We understand the pressures the NHS is under and how stretched services are, however this nurse made our experience better than what I imagine it could have been. I hope the hospital appreciate what a good member of staff they have in her.
We would also like to thank the rest of the Accident and Emergency team at Borders General for their help.
"Excellent Nurse"
