"Poor appointment booking system"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

I am not usually one to complain about the NHS  but I think the system of having to phone from 08:00 on a Monday morning to get an appointment for that week with a GP just simply doesn’t work. It took 201 continuous phone calls (46 minutes) to eventually get through for an appointment (you don’t even go on hold, it just says user busy).

I had to take time off my work to do this. I think for people who are working and may struggle to take time off it’s just an extremely difficult process and makes its very difficult for patients to access a GP (which is already difficult anyway with current pressures). It is no fault of the GP's/receptionists etc but just a system that isn’t a good one.

Dear Bex1994

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience. Please be advised that GP’s are independent contractors and are responsible for investigating and responding to any concerns a person may have about their service; they are not registered to respond directly to feedback through Care Opinion.

Could I please invite you to contact the Practice Manager if you would like a direct response about the service you experienced, or contact PatientAffairs.PrimaryCare@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

Thank you

Karen
