I was transfered to the Cardiac catheterisation unit at Hairmyres hospital with a suspected heart attack.
I needed an angiogram and I was so anxious and worried about the procedure and outcome. The nursing staff were an amazing group of people who calmed me, cared for me and told me exactly what to expect. I also met 2 cardiologist who were so honest, open and empathetic to me.
During the procedure Dr Jong was there and explained everything confirming I had not had a heart attack but I had 'broken heart syndrome' ( a type of cardiomyopathy which can resolve), probably caused by the high rate of stress I had been under.
I cannot express enough my gratitude to everyone in that unit, including the porter who took me there and domestic staff who stopped for a chat. Whilst I still have a recovery period, I went home feeling that life had thrown me a warning and that the staff had given me a new chance to work on getting myself well physically and mentally. I felt so lucky to be cared for by this team and will be forever grateful to them.
