I was recently a patient within Ward 33 at VHK. I was admitted with acute cholecystitis and I was in for 4 days. They deserve praise for their cleanliness, care and attention to details, and at every level from the domestics and n/a's to the Staff nurses and Charge Nurses.
In the past, I have seen that when a staff member is admitted as an in-patient, everyone avoids them like the plague, and they are only approached when they need to be. My experience was the polar opposite. Everyone was attentive, polite and could not do enough. The domestic asked if it was ok to come in and clean my room, the nursing auxilliaries could not have been more helpful, ensuring I had everything I needed. Nursing staff were attentive and not stand-offish because I was staff, and the Charge Nurse (upon my arrival) was well informed, thorough and on the ball.
Finally the Consultant and the Registrar who attended to me, were approachable, patient and they took the time to listen.
All in all, a big pat on the back for everyone in 33 - Well done and thank you!
