My story is about the superb treatment I received from the Medical Staff, right from the arrival of the Paramedics at my home to Discharge in early Aug 2022, and the situation I found in the A&E Department at Wexham Park Hospital.
The immediate attention, diagnosis and treatment I received was unparalleled anywhere and in short order I was transferred to the recovery area awaiting a decision from the Consultants on the next procedure. A very special “thank you” to the Assessment Doctors and staff and especially:
Doctor Jordan and nurses, Poppy and Tracy in A & E and Ophelia ad Eva on the Ward.
Now to the second half of the story!
Having had plenty of time to observe my surroundings in between events I was astonished to see the conditions these hard working, cheerful, positive, medical staff have to cope with. I can only simplify it with this analogy:
‘You have a small kitchen out of which you have to immediately serve a table full of very hungry workers who keep ringing bells and shouting to be fed and this small space is invaded by 10 people who have no reason to be there but refuse to leave! Nightmare?’
It’s crazy! People ‘tip up’ with; ingrowing toenails; toothache; earache; boils, pimples....you name it...and expect to be treated. They line the corridors on trolleys, chatting away on their mobiles or playing games and expect the staff to treat them as emergencies. You couldn’t make it up.
Yet, I have never heard one practitioner decry this situation. It’s not beyond the wit of man to realise that this can’t continue.
Just off the top of my head I thought:
An initial charge, refundable if it is a genuine case?
No admittance except by ambulance or with a paramedic?
Prior arrangement with a pharmacy phone call?
Anyway, we must help these wonderful professionals to help us.
I find the amount of stupidity and sense of entitlement out there is staggering.
On my own behalf, I say again, Thank you Wexham Park A & E,
"Prompt response in A & E Department"
