About: Lauriston Building NHS Lothian

(as a service user),

I saw an oncologist and ENT consultant on Tuesday where urgent surgical investigation was proposed. On Tuesday I received an email from the ENT appointments Dept via E- Comms, one of the very few that use this excellent service as the three letters from three diffent departments I received in one day will confirm.

The letter in the email told me that I was now on the waiting list, category 2 which meant I had a 4 week wait which was fine.

Later that day I got a phone call from a nice bloke in the appointments office offering me an admission next Thursday at at ST Johns in Livingstone which I accepted. The only problem is preadmission it seems this can no longer be done in the usual Lauriston Buildings but it is necessary for me to make a 3 hour + round trip to St Johns by public transport because NHS Lothian cannot organise preadmission at some facility in Edinburgh. Really NHS Lothian is this the best you can do, I suspect it probably is?

Dear Mr Fraggle,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us via Care Opinion. I was sorry to read what has been happening to you over your last few posts.

I have discussed your feedback with Shirley Thomson who is the Clinical Service Manager of the Head & Neck Directorate which covers services both at St John's Hospital and the Lauriston Buildings. She asks if you can please get in touch with her directly (Tel No: 01506 522201) as it may be that your pre-assessment appointment can be arranged for somewhere closer to home this week but she will need your personal details to be able to change / amend any appointments for you.

Alternatively, if you wish to discuss any issues regarding your care and treatment please do not hesitate to contact me via the Patient Experience Team (0131 536 3370) where our lines are open from 9am - 2pm.

With best wishes

Jeannette
