"Royal Preston Hospital A&E visit"

Following a freak cycling accident, I presented myself to rph a&e department. I was immediately told to leave and visit a small hut outside prior to checking myself in (Covid check I presume) despite being soaked to the skin, cold and shivering, dripping in blood and being in chronic pain. Once checked in I was just left to sit with everyone else despite my fairly significant loss of blood (it was pooling on the floor beneath me). Eventually, following my wife's protests, I was triaged. At this point the realisation from the staff of my predicament finally kicked in and I was patched up, provided with pain relief and sent for x-rays. I was diagnosed as having a badly broken collarbone, open elbow fracture, significant loss of skin and severe bruising/grazing. Following an assessment by the orthopaedic surgeon, it was determined that I would need an operation for the elbow and a separate operation for the collarbone but there were no beds available so I was offered a chair in a draughty corridor. I sat in that chair for 16 hours! I almost passed out twice. I have a pretty decent pain threshold but I just could not get comfortable. Staff were apologetic but unable to offer anything. I could see that they were rushed off their feet. Eventually, I was informed that a hastily arranged pop-up ward had been made available so I was wheeled to the basement to finally get a bed. It was a huge improvement and made a real difference to my comfort level. The staff running the ward had been sent from Chorley so they didn't know where anything was or who did but they coped pretty well I thought. There were no toilets in the ward so we were forced to use bedpans (not a problem for me personally). The next day I became concerned about the worsening pain in my elbow and I began to suspect that it was infected. Thankfully, the orthopaedic surgeon agreed and I was booked in for my elbow op later that day. I woke up in a different ward and following some initial observations from the nurses I was allowed home. Apparently, there were no surgeons available to conduct the collarbone op so I would have to return at a later date. I was told that I would need to contact my GP to arrange an appointment to have my stitches removed. I did so but the nurse was on holiday for the next two weeks and there was no cover provided. Then, randomly, I received a phone call from rph inviting me to make an appointment for stitch removal. I told them 'Tell me when you want me to pop in and I'll be there'. An appointment was made for the following Monday (it was Wednesday). Upon arrival at the fracture clinic on the Monday, the nurses asked me why I was there because 'you can't have your stitches removed until 10-14 days after they were done'. I informed them that rph specifically told me to come on this day! Exasperated, I asked to speak to an ortho surgeon about my collarbone (it was starting to heal but not in the right position). I'm still waiting. What is going on?
