I was a wee bit nervous meeting Andrea . My mum came with me and that helped me. Then  I settled and it was ok,

We did some Talking Mats about my communication. The pictures helped me to understand most of what Andrea was asking me. She  listened to what I had to say and took a photo of the mats. She sent me the photo of the mats. This was helpful. it was good to use the mats instead of speaking.

Andrea gave me lots of time to think.

Andrea asked me where I would like to meet and if  I wanted my mum to be in the room. It was good she asked . I like my mum being beside me. It makes speaking easier and  I feel safe.

I feel that Andrea cared about my feelings.   She made me feel comfortable because she didn't force me to speak. 

 She wrote a communication report with pictures. I understood some of the information. I learnt about having autism , the things I'm good at and the things my brain is struggling with . I told Andrea  I was good at remembering peoples' birthdays and what age people are ! ! Andrea is going to put this in the report .  This would be good !  The report was little bit too long. I want to read through it with my mum again.

My name is Claire, and I work with the Patient Experience Team at NHS Lothian. I want to thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience with your Speech and Language Therapist Andrea.

We enjoyed your use of Talking Mats in your story and that you felt you had a good experience from the service. It was nice to read that you had Been given time and you were Involved in Decisions throughout the appointment.

I hope you enjoy reading your Communication report and I like that you are good at remembering people’s birthdays and their ages. That can be difficult!
