"Same-sex couple on maternity ward"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care

(as the patient),

We attended maternity triage due to excessive baby movements. The staff were excellent and reassured us. Carried out all the relevant checks etc to make sure we were both ok.

My main point is that when I was being checked by the doctor they immediately and clearly referred to my partner as 'the other mummy', without any checking or prompting from us. Now whether that was from my notes or she had picked up on something within the room, it was lovely for that to be acknowledged without checking whether she was my sister or friend, or asking about the father.

Dear encrytionxq47

Thank you for sharing your feedback whilst attending our Maternity Unit within University Hospital Wishaw. (wards 21-24)

I am delighted our staff referred to your partner as "the other mummy", getting care right is our aim and I can see our staff treated you both with dignity and respect.

I will be happy to share your kind words with all staff involved in your care.

All the very best when baby arrives.

Best wishes

Jean
