I was involved in a serious life threatening RTA which has sadly left me disabled .

I spent time in both the  Royal and Altnagavin hospitals - the care I got from the Doctors and nursing staff was first class and I would be forever grateful for their time and patience with me .

Sadly my only issue was the time I left Altnagavin Hospital in early December- I was due to go to the waterside hospital for intense physio. I was initially placed in a bridging unit ( it was a care home with an average of 90) for two weeks -

The two weeks became two months because of Covid !! Yet I had agency workers in daily.

I felt abandoned- no one from the waterside hospital came to me or even spoke to me on the phone . I could have had zoom - and zoom physio at least . Nothing . I believe this affected my healing. I’m extremely annoyed and very upset about this experience.

When I left the hospital I got fantastic help from the rehabilitation team in Omagh. I really want to thank Lisa the OH who give me a lot of confidence . I still hadn’t seen a physio at this stage 4 months after my accident .

Lisa in turn contacted the CMP where I got fantastic help and ongoing support from the amazing Caoimhe ( physio ) and equally amazing Natalie who have both shown a lot of empathy and emotional support to myself .

Hello empathyfn94,

My name is Jenny Mullan. I am Head of Service for secondary care for the Western Trust. I look after the rehab wards in the waterside hospital. Both areas offer rehabilitation to people following an acute episode of care. I hope that you are recovering well following your accident and I'm sure that you are delighted to now be at home.

I would be interested to discuss your rehab care with you and how you did not get transferred to the waterside hospital for your rehabilitation as you had expected. I would also like to understand the delay in you coming into the waterside and why you were also delayed in the care home. Additionally, I would also be keen to explore which team you did receive the excellent rehab support from as I'm sure you would appreciate that your kind words should also be shared with them.

I may well not be the correct individual to address the issues that you raise, however if we could discuss this further I may be able to direct you to another colleague who may be able to provide an answer to the issues that you have presented.

I am happy to be contacted to discuss anything further with you and may be contacted at the number below.

02871860007.

Kind Regards

Jenny

I have just returned from leave to read your story and as the acting Co-ordinator for the Condition Management Programme (CMP) I am delighted to learn that your experience with us has been supportive and helpful.

I will certainly pass on your thanks to the CMP staff - Caoimhe the Physiotherapist and Natalie the Occupational Therapist who provided the support, empathy and interventions to help you at this time.
