"High standard care in NHS Fife"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Haematology/Oncology Day Unit Victoria Hospital / Haematology/Oncology Day Unit

(as the patient),

First of all it is testament to the care and skill of all the professionals who have provided me with their unique talents that I believe I am here to write this document today in sunny July 2022.

Unbeknown to me I was close to dying in a very short time in 2020 when diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma (blood related cancer).

Obviously it hasn't happened yet !

I have to therefore express my ongoing thanks to those in Ward 34 Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy and Day Treatment Clinic, Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.

Now, the 'invisible' ones. All the dedicated catering, household staff who just appear, do their  job and disappear agian. No-one ever seems to notice.

Without them as part of my exceptional delivery team I believe that the results might be very different.

When getting the chance to engage with them on a personal basis they are charming, full of unexpected surprises (one lady is a multiple photographer award winner - beat that then ?) which lifts my spirits a lot from those encounters.

The point I'm trying to make is that what we see as patients being cared for in Fife is,I believe, of a very high standard and must include all of those making it happen all day, every day.

Dear Stillwater

Thank you for taking the time to post about your experience within our Haematology/Oncology Units in NHS Fife over the last 2 years, it is so nice to hear from you.

It's heartwarming to read your thoughts about the care you have received and also your feelings about our staff and how they all contribute and make a difference. Every single member of staff within 34 and the Haematology/Oncology Day Unit is part of the team and it is great to hear they all played a part in your care. It made me smile when you described the staff as charming and full of unexpected surprises, after working in both areas for over 24 years they still do the same to me every single day.

I will pass on your thoughts to the staff, it will mean a lot to them and they will appreciate this feedback. If there is anything further we can assist with please do not hesitate to get in touch with myself or the staff within Ward 34 or the Haematology/Oncology Day Unit.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Dear Stillwater

Thank you for taking the time to share such lovely and uplifting feedback on all our teams in Ward 34 Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy and Day Treatment Clinic, Queen Margaret Hospital. It is wonderful to see that you have been so well looked after by all our teams. I am delighted to hear that your treatment has gone well since 2020.

Thank you for describing to us why and how every person in our team matters, those that are visible and those that are "invisible". The strength of the team is each individual members. The strength of each member is the team. You remind us that we bring our whole self to work and not just our work self and we are dependant on this and all our team to ensure we deliver excellent care to our patients.

I will make sure your kind words are shared with all our teams.

I hope your care continues to go well

Best Wishes

Murdina

Update posted by Stillwater (the patient)

Hello everyone. In addition to my original post (I shan't do any more after this) It also means a lot that we take the time to be courteuous to each other. I only wish I have the time left to make us all see the compassion deep within us all to delight in each others company. I know that all the staff work very hard to accomplish what we need as recipients but so often how often do we hear the words 'if someone would just listen to me ' - usually in frustration. My opinion - for what it's worth - is just to start with a smile and a please and thank you. Remember? like Mum taught you. That'll be a start. Then all of us will benefit. Look here's one I made earlier.😁 That's it. Go and smile.

Stillwater.
