"Wonderful care from GPs and health visitor"

About: General practices in Lothian Lothian Community Services

(as a service user),

After the birth of my daughter following multiple rounds of IVF, two losses and a traumatic birth and poor experience at hospital I was really struggling with post-natal depression and feeling overwhelmed with everything.

My wonderful health visitor Ali advised me to speak to my GP about how I was feeling. I saw Dr Pitcairn for my baby’s six week check who was so kind and gave me plenty of time to talk about my experience and how I was feeling. She asked me to come back so I could have my own appointment but I didn’t follow up, I guess I thought things would just get better. They didn’t.

Ali was so kind and supportive and really encouraged me to seek help, she reassured me that what I was feeling was normal and it was OK to ask for help. After a few more months of feeling down I gathered the courage with Ali’s help to make an appointment with my doctor.

I saw Dr Shek, who like Dr Pitcairn, made me feel very at ease, was really kind and understanding and had taken the time to speak to Dr Pitcairn before my appointment to understand more about how I had been feeling. She recommended treatment for me and scheduled me a follow up appointment there and then.

Today, I saw Dr Pitcairn about another matter entirely for my daughter, and she remembered us from our 6 week check 6 months ago and before asking my about today’s appointment she took some time to check in with me and make sure I was doing well with my PND and that we were both doing well.

I just wanted to say thanks to Ali, Dr Shek and Dr Pitcairn. I feel so cared for and I feel seen. I’m so touched by the kindness, care and professionalism shown by all three and feel like they have all worked together to make sure I get the care that I need.

Thank you.
