"EDMR therapy and my wonderful therapist"

About: Thurrock Services / Inclusion Thurrock Psychological Therapies Service

(as a service user),

I was in a seriously abusive relationship with a man who has now been convicted to 7 years in prison. Him and his associates assaulted me which in turn had a significant impact on my mental health. I resigned from my career lost my home, my friends and myself. As a result I gave up and took an overdose.

I was subsequently sectioned as a result and remained an inpatient for 9 weeks. I was also brought up in the care system moving between 8 different families, suffering abuse from my birth parents and then the loss of my mother through suicide.

My childhood trauma and the trauma I experienced last year was a contributor to my diagnosis of PTSD which I now manage through medication and after intense weekly EDMR therapy with Chrissie. She has saved my life and If it wasn’t for her, her patience, belief in me, strength and courage I don’t think I would ever of been this ok again.

Dear columbaqs54,

Thank you for sharing with us your experience.

I'm sorry to read you were in a seriously abusive relationship, which resulted in a significant impact on your mental health; resigning on your career, lossing your home, friends and yourself, giving up and taking an overdose, so you were sectioned and remained an inpatient for 9 weeks.

This added to your childhood were you were brought up in the care system, moved between 8 different families, suffering abuse from your birth parents and then the loss of your mother through suicide. These years must be clearly very difficult for you.

What is great is that you got the courage to reach for help, that with patience you worked on your childhood trauma and the trauma you experienced last year; and that you are working with your GP managing your medication.

You arrived with us to work hard, to feel better. Well done columbaqs54, you must be very proud of what you have reached so far, as you committed to sessions and you got the chance to work on your PTSD with Chrissie through EMDR therapy sessions, which are not easy.

As a result, you turn your life around allowing Chrissie's support, which you believed in and trust. I'm sure Chrissie will be so happy reading your feedback.

I wish you the best in the future and keep up the hard work.

J. Isabel Saunders
