"3 years wait for an appointment"

(as a service user),

I have a referral from my GP and need to be seen by someone at Ballenden House. I rang up today after waiting for a year with no contact and was told that I might be waiting for 3 years before seeing anyone. It is just not acceptable that people have to deal with their mental health issues alone for multiple years before they get a few minutes of someone's time.

I am almost certainly not going to be in the same part of the country by the time I get an appointment. It is dreading having to start the process again elsewhere. How am I supposed to get help?

Dear septemberqe77

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us via Care Opinion.

I am so sorry to hear that following a referral to Ballenden House from your GP, you have been advised you will have to wait 3 years to be seen. Unfortunately, many of our services have waiting times longer than we would hope for. I appreciate this must be very frustrating for you.

In order for us to look into your situation further, please can I ask you to contact the Patient Experience Team with your details. The email address is feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk or if you would prefer to call, the number is 0131 536 3370. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 2pm.

Thank you

Louise
