My father has dementia and resides in a care home in Aberdeen. Basic care needs are not met. We are tired of complaining and getting nowhere.
His bedding goes unchanged often for more than a week. They change the sheet only in some instances. They repeatedly don't use his own bedding but some thin, discoloured bedding they have.
He is often kept in his room for hours on end and all residents are put to bed at 6pm.
They don't communicate with us regarding daily activities, personal care, doctors visits, dentist visits etc.
His clothes are often stained and crumpled, they tend to stuff his clothing and bedding into one drawer.
His underwear is regularly being replaced as they literally rip them from his body.
He has recently recovered from a necrosed sore on his foot which took almost a year to heal properly, the sore was prior to him being at the care home. But he has been complaining of sore feet for a few days, he won't let the carers take his socks off. We finally managed to get his socks off last night, his feet are swollen and infected. Why didn't the carers report this to nurse? Where is their choice? Where is their dignity? I feel, this is not care, its abuse.
