"Recalled after a mammogram and subsequent mastectomy."

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I had a recall to Lincoln hospital a week after having a mammogram. There was some white spots in my right breast which were called calcification.

One week later I had 2 biopsies and was diagnosed with early onset of cancer. The breast clinic at Lincoln explained my treatment options i.e. a lumpectomy or mastectomy and if I required radio therapy or drugs treatment.

The consultant Mr G listened to me and I opted for a mastectomy and reconstruction. I had my operation last week and am now recovering well at home.

The staff at the breast clinic were informative, answering any questions honestly and with empathy.

I felt fully supported throughout the process and my wishes and feelings were foremost in their minds. I still have a way to go but I am very confident that they will continue to provide excellent support for me.
